Hello everyone, i am looking at buying a yellow 2004 fx4 4x4 extended cab it hs around 250k km (about 150k miles) probablly get it for around 3000.00 . So my question is what is the biggest issue with this yr of truck engine, tranny or what ever big or small etc. All comments welcome. I think the build yr was 2003 that is the yr on the sticker inside the drivers door.

What engine does it have? If its a 4.6 you should be good. If it has a 5.4 they have a cam phaser issue. While 3k is really cheap for a 2004. Just if you buy it, check the carfacts out

All fx4s 04-11 have the 5.4

2010 was the last year for the 5.4. 2011 is when ford rolled out the new 5.0 replacing the 5.4

Well my point was there was no 4.6 in the fx4s

Its a good price for sure but unless you are set on it I would avoid it. Save up money and get a good down payment for a newer model. I traded in my 02 2wd for an 04 fx4 and it was a downgrade.

The 04-08 generation F-150 was a revolution in the light pickup truck segment that made everyone else become followers. I too am curious as to why you say your previous generation '02 model was better than the FX4.

I have a 2004 FX4 with no major issues. The spark plugs were original and I replaced them at 148,000km but they were really easy when I look back at it. I don't have the cam phaser issue. The only real issue I have with my truck is that the previous owner did a hack job with the electronics but otherwise it's far more liveable than my Ram 1500.
