Looking to buy a 2004 - 08 FX4
Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum and I am looking to buy a F150 in about 9 months after I return from a deployment. I am looking for a truck that will be a daily driver/tow vehicle for my current car. I don't want to spend more than $12,500 on the truck itself. I want the FX4 package, because I love it's looks and the 4x4 is great for snow. With that said, it seems like I will be in the range of a 2004 - 2005 F150 with around 130 - 150K miles. I don't mind a high mileage truck as long as it is clean, but I would like to know, what would you guys do to ensure it runs well as a daily driver? Below is a list of things that I think should be done, but I don't know if I am missing anything.
- Sensors: MAF, O2
- New plugs (I hear this is a royal PITA on the 5.4 though :/)
- Air Filter (Maybe a CAI if it is worth it)
- All Fluids: Coolant, Oil, Tranny, Front & Rear Diffs, T-Case
- Brakes: New Rotors & Pads on all 4 wheels
- Engine cleaner (seafoam?)
I assume about $1K to do all that
Then I will start the mod process
- Side exit dual exhaust
- stereo system
- Leveling kit/tires
Thanks for your help.

i bought a 07 F150 FX4 with 80000 kms. im up in Canada. i paid 22 grand for mine. completely loaded and i love it. For your question i would have to say, bring the truck you are interested in buying, if the present owner allows, to a mechanic you trust for a complete inspection and go with that. i know it might not be the response you wanted but its something
