Default Looking at an 08 F-150

Guys, I am looking at the possibility of coming over to the dark side. Currently driving a 06 Tundra 4x4. Gas mileage on it is not good, and it hates towing my boat with the 4.7 V8. Local dealership has on 08 F-150 4x4 for sale with the 5.4 V8. Went and test drove it and it drives nice, and you can tell the power difference from the 5.4. It has 78k on it compared to my current vehicle's 56k on it. They will give me 17k for the Tundra (which is 4k less than I paid for it in 09), and are asking 20995 for the Ford. Anybody have any feedback on the F-150 with the 5.4, especially mpg you are getting.

If you are doing it strictly for gas mileage I would keep what you have. the 5.4 4x4 won't get you great mpg. This is coming from an unbiased person. I do own an 04 F150 but am not strictly a Ford man. The only way I could see justifying the purchase is if you tow your boat quite a bit for fairly long distances. You are going up 22k miles and paying more for it. Just my 2 cents, I am sure others will chime in.

Yeah, I have sniffed 14 mpg in my truck a couple of times, and I get under 10 mpg towing my boat. Only thing I use my truck for is hunting, fishing, and towing. Other than that it sits parked most of the time. That's why the Tundra is such low mileage for the year.

That is probably where you will be with an F150 as well. Maybe a bit higher but no more than 2-3 MPG. Depending on the size of your boat I would bet that is where the F150 will be too. Gas engines don't produce great MPG numbers towing.

Quite a bit of MPG is determined by how you drive, tire pressure, and maintenance. When i purchased my F150 my tire pressure was about 10-15 psi too low. By filling them up and changing my fuel filter I have seen a 2-3 MPG boost

Look at the build date to make sure it was built after 10/2007, otherwise make them prove the 2-piece plugs have been changed. If it has the original plugs, you will not be happy when its time to change them on your dime. As for the gas mileage, you won't see anything improve with the 5.4. Torque is good, but mpg is ugly.

with a programmer and some intake and exhaust mods you should do at least 15/16 that's where I run around town...no matter how I drive it.. 08 5.4 FX4 with 55k...offer them $19 for the truck...see what they say.

If its not going to be an upgrade over what I already have, then I won't offer them anything. I figured with the extra 30 hp and 52 ft lbs of torque would equate to better performance than my current truck.

The mpg will vary obviously based on how you drive and what you're pulling, I've seen as much as 19 out of my 08 5.4 and usually average 16-17, I've pulled some pretty heavy trailers with it as well, not enough to give u an idea of towing mpgs but it pulled it like a champ, I think you'd b very happy with the trade

you will do better than 10mpg towing I am sure. Just so you tow at a decent speed.

I did 15 towing my wife's car with a loaded bed from Utah to Cali. Sometimes I got better if it was flat. But with stock sized tires you should do better. Remember though f150 gross weight is pretty heavy, being why they are dogs compared to say a dodge.
