Why does everyone suggest running cats? I don't have emission testing where I live and that's another $200+ for cats.

It's a federal law for one that carries a hefty fine. From what I inderstand, if you sell the truck to someone without the cats they get busted the fine comes back to you. Not sure to what extent thats true. I would suggest looking in to it.

But all the legal stuff aside. Your truck will stink when running. Especially at idle. And the fumes can sometimes be smelled inside. Regardless of where your exhuast exits. Windows down or up. If you have the air on and the wind outside blowing right it's gonna get sucked in. Been there done that.

Exactly. It doesn't make much sense to sacrifice a fine, your gas mileage, and overall performance of the engine just so itll be a tad louder and have a more raspy sound.

How does not having cats drop your gas mileage? I've always been told if you don't have cats you get better gas mileage?

It shouldn't mess with your gas mileage. You might get better f you have a clogged cat before. But they don't effect mpg

I may look into a set of cats anyway but the reason why I was going for the obx and off road y pipe was because I wasn't going to have to redo my whole exhaust system

The only reason MPG should be affected is if the cat is before the o2 sensors. On these trucks the cats are behind the o2 sensors.

I don't really care about go loud the system is. Why I was going for is ease of installation (obx has the off road y pipe) and cost of system ($200+ for cats).
