Good choice. The whole truck will fall to pieces before you put a scatch in that Detroit. Good luck

Default rear e locker for 2005 f150

I am interested in putting an e-locker in my 05 f150 xlt. It is rear wheel drive. Any suggestions on brand or where to buy? Any help appreciated.

Look up the Eaton E-locker, or the Auburn "ECTED". The auburn is a limited slip that locks when you turn it on, while the Eaton is "open" until you turn it on. The Eaton is a beefier unit though. Check ringpinion.com

Default Old Locker thread brought back.

I see this thread is old but I am in the market for a gear upgrade and a locker. driver444 it seems you know quite a bit. You talked a lot about the Detroit True Trac, now on 4wheelparts website the true Trac is a limited slip. Then there is the Detroit locker. which one are you talking about? See screen shot below.
  • Eaton

    $461.99 - $794.99

Detroit Locker The most rugged positive locking differential, and most widely available for axles from 3,000 to 70,000 lb. capacity. For severe operational conditions. Detroit Lockers provide the highest amount of traction available and will never let a wheel stop turning! No parts to wear out and no special lubricants required. Driver may hear and feel "backlash" going from drive-to-coast, as reversing torque flow resets the components.
  • Eaton

    $394.99 - $991.99

Detroit Locker Tru Trac Limited Slip Detroit Truetrac's proven helical gear design eliminates the need for wearable parts, resulting in maintenance free traction. Recognized not only for its toughness but also it's smooth and quiet operation. Engineered to work efficiently in front and rear applications. Power transfer is so smooth, it literally goes unnoticed by the driver - even in the front axle. Ideal for front applications and high performance applications.

While he talks about both, as he said in his first post:

Yep just read his post more carefully and he talks about both. Guess I'll make my decision based on that thanks for pointing that out.

Hey GatorB8 you wouldn't happen to know what the rear axle is on my truck would you? It's a 2005 F150 STX with the 4.6 liter 8. I'm pretty sure it's an 8.8 but when ordering the lockers they also ask whether the axle's are 28 spline or 31 spline? Thanks.

The 8.8 axle used in REAR applications is a 31 spline. The 28 spline is for front applications. All STX trucks (except the 2009+ with 4.6 liter 3-valve engines) are 8.8 axles
