Default lock on rear bumper??

There is a key lock on my rear bumper, when I put the key in it, the whole thing comes out. Does anyone know what it is for??? I asked the previous owner and he wasn't sure. Thanks

got a picture?

It sounds like it might lock up the lowering unit for the spare tire, but that is just a guess.

Yep, that'd be my guess too. It's to keep people from being able to steal your spare.

Look in the hole. It lowers your spare tire.

alot easier said then done since I didn't know what it was called and there are pages and pages about the exterior of the car. Unless I knew it was for the spare, it would take forever to find it. Thought it might be easier asking people up here who would know. Glad to see the boards are friendly around here

Thanks everyone else..that is a good thing to know.

haha..no, its all good. We all learn something new everyday. When I first looked in the "hole" all you can see is the thread of the tire. After finding out what it was, you can see where the jack handle goes in, but it is easily missed. I'm sure if I had to drop the spare I would have figured it out, but like i said, better to ask and find out before hand.

**I'm the type of person who likes to fix everything on my truck myself, so i'm sure I'll have tons of more questions as I look over the engine and other parts of the truck.
