So I am getting the truck back today (at some point they aren't sure when). The following services were performed:
  • Both timing chains and all tensioners/guides replaced
  • Rear diff vibration fixed (I have no idea whether this means friction modifier was added or they replaced the clutches, I'm pretty sure it's the former though)

And it only took a month! Well, 4 weeks 3 days to be exact. Pitiful.

Service shop says the cam phasers and VCT solenoids also need to be done, however the warranty company says they are not covered because they are a "common replacement item", you know, like brake pads and spark plugs. I wonder if people actually buy this crap from their warranty companies? I think I'll just leave the cam phasers alone since it seems you need to really know what you are doing to replace them, and most people replace them only to have issues with them again soon afterwards.

There's a vibration in the drive train that they diagnosed as "well it's there, but we can't figure out what it is." so that didn't get fixed. Again, pathetic. Does Ford not even train their techs to work on these trucks?

So I guess the next job is to do the Plugs and COPS, new brake pads and rotors, and do a pan drop, flush, and filter change on the transmission. Might as well do an oil change while I'm down there.

Can't believe these failures had my truck for over a month and that was all they managed to get fixed. Completely pathetic. I'm going to tell them they should pay for a month of my truck loan since I had zero use of the truck during that time and it was in their possession. Sounds fair to me, especially after putting me through all this hell and accomplishing next to nothing.

So I got the truck back today. Gave back the rental, talked over the repairs with the rep who told me the battery died and they had to jump it which was fine with me the battery was weak when I gave it to them.

Get in the truck, truck barely starts. Tell the rep and he says that the truck just has to learn its idle since the battery died. Fine whatever.

Pull the truck to the exit, try to leave and the truck bucks at the back and barely goes. Finally it catches and we start of ng. Oh hell no so I start to drive it back to the other dealership that did the work and it doesn't make it. Truck stutters and dies, there's a loud beep and the CEL and battery light come on and the display reads "check gauges". I figure it's limp mode and get it to go enough to get out of the road and the whole time there's a loud clunk every so often from the drivetrain.

I am BEYOND pissed at this point. These losers put me in a focus. I don't drive a truck so you can rent me a FOCUS.

Ohhhh boy..... I would blow my top and and really lay in to them. With that, it tells me they never even test drove it after they got it back together. I would be really pissed off and most likely lose my cool with them. Sorry brother I feel your pain. Wish you the best of luck.

Why did you buy this truck? Did you just skip the test drive?

First of all, this is my first truck. Second of all, I am not a mechanic. And lastly if I knew everything about these trucks I know now, I wouldn't have bought it. Clearly that does me zero good at this point.

Just got a call from the service tech over at the Ford dealership. He's saying that the VCT Solenoid on bank 1 is bad and causing the issues, and that it's not his fault. I call bull****, I gave him a truck that at least ran and ran well despite whatever issues it might have had, and he has it for a month and gives me back a truck that doesn't run?

Sounds like this failure is just after more cash in his pocket. I've got news for him, that isn't happening. I don't promote, condone, or support scam artists.

Finally got the truck back today after a month and a half of having her in the shop.

Final list of repairs completed:
  • Timing chains replaced
  • Timing gears replaced
  • Timing guides and tensioners replaced
  • Cam Phasers replaced
  • VCT Solenoids replaced
  • Rear differential gears, fluid, and friction modifier replaced.

When the tech called me to tell me she was ready he told me that they were getting a misfire on cylinder #2 and that it needs new spark plugs. My last question is could that misfire be the reason she bucks almost every time she shifts into over drive on the freeway until I get the RPMs back up?

I'm going to be replacing the plugs with my next paycheck anyways, I just want to know if I can expect this behavior to go away when I do or if there is something wrong with the repairs that were completed with the timing system.

Thanks for any help you can provide guys!

Bad plugs or coils are actually a very common reason for that symptom. Many people say that it feels like running over rumble strips.

They are most certainly not common replacement (wear) items. The warranty company is trying to get out of paying what they owe per the contract, most likely. I'd start mentioning attorneys.

I had a constant misfire problem that caused me to have the coils and plugs change out twice in 3 months... after the second set of plugs started to misfire, I went to a different dealership and that found out that the main engine wiring harness had a bad connector on the #3 plug, causing the plug to go bad and the misfiring... had to replace the whole harness to a price of $1700 installed....

Not sure if thats what's wrong with yours, but you can always ask them to look into it if the misfiring continues....
