Default A little confused on lift vs. tire size

Hey everyone. I would like to lift my truck, a 2008 Supercrew Lariat. I really don't want to spend the money for a 6" lift, but was entertaining the idea of a leveling kit (like Pro Comp) for about 1/10th of the cost. From everything I've read and heard, both on here and other literature and websites, a 3" leveling kit will either accept 33" or 35" tires...depending on which source I listen to. I don't want any rubbing, and it would be nice to fit as large as tires as I can. I also understand that you have to consider the tire width as well. Basically, I think I would like the look of a 3" leveling kit - it would make the truck look a little more stout, but not too much - and I can't beat the price! I suppose either 33s or 35s would be fine, I'm just looking for the definitive answer. I've also seen several conflicting photos of several trucks with various lifts. I'm not sure if the info posted with the pictures is wrong or what, but it leaves me a little confused as to which information I'm getting is right and wrong.

Any help would be appreciated. Any photos would also be appreciated!

Thanks,

Tony

theres alot of nay-sayers on the 3" leveling kits, but Im running one with 315/70/17s (34.5" basically) on aftermarket wheels with zero rubbing at all.

You wont get a definitive answer, and heres why.

The amount of clearance you get depends on assembly, different plants and parts runs make each truck a little bit unique, and one of the areas this is noticeable is tire tolerances.

Popular opinion is that with a 3 inch leveling kit you can run 35's....and they may or may not have minor rubbing.

Thanks, guys. Maybe I should just have the lift done and then see what I can fit in there.

I have a 2" leveling kit and I'm running LT305/65 R 18 = 33.7" tire presently on stock rims my truck is a 4x4 this does make a difference I've been told since I had these tires installed I could run 35's with know problem. once you go to a 3" leveling kit there are other things that must be done to the front end if you stay with a 2 or 2.5" kit you just have to get alignment

Tony, you may want to check out the 5100 series Bilstein shock's that can lift the front up to 2 inches. A 305x65x18 tire which is close to 34 inches tall will fit great with those on and leave a little more room for clearance in the front. Just my 2 cent's.
