Default Liquid under U-joint/rear driveshaft

Hey guys,

I walked outside yesterday and saw a little puddle under my rear driveshaft where it attaches the the rear housing where the U-joint is. There was a little bit of the liquid on the actual u-joint(i think) but the liquid wasnt water and it kind of smelled burnt which I know cant be good. This isnt rear differential fluid is it? This is the only spot where I see the pooling under the truck and dont notice anything directly under the rear housing. Any information would be very helpful as I dont want this to turn into a problem. Thanks

Got to be rear Diff leaking ...possibly from the yoke assembly.

Techrep and bubbabud...you were both right. originally thought it was the pinion seal so a local guy put it on the lift and dropped the driveshaft and all of a sudden fluid came spitting out so i had to get a new yoke or flange as Ford is calling it...only cost $75 for the seal and yoke at the dealership and mechanic charged $50 to install the parts. The dealership said itd be $225 to just do the seal...so i figure $125 for the 2 parts and install was a great price compared to the dealer.

I just wanted to thank you both for diagnosing my problem with just my explanation. Im impressed. Saved me a good chunk of change by not having me pay to diagnose the problem. That's exactly why this site is awesome!!
