There are other makes/models of these as well, but in a nut shell these are the more popular/well known unit. If you have a 5.4 and 4x4, you have a 9.75" rear and I want to say 33 spline. If 4.6 it is 8.8 and 31 spline. Don't quote me on the spline count, been awhile.

I have a post on this prob from about this time last year with some info/part numbers.

I was quoted out at 900$ for the front and $400 for the rear if I recall. Some say you can do these in your driveway, please don't unless you know what you are doing.

Lotta good info here and usefull. I went with the Detroit Tru Trac in the rear. Anyway, I sent you a pm about it.

34 spline for 9.75, sorry for the miss info above.

For 5.4 and 4x4, this unit: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XJ80N4

Front is 8.8 and should be 28 spline.

Depending on how deep you go, this is the cheapest I found the parts(bearings, seals, shims) and gears. They do have some differentials. http://www.4ws.com/

Front is reverse cut on the gears, fyi...

Below should be correct size/spline count based on a 2008:
2wd & 4wd 4.6L rear 8.8" 31 spline
4wd 5.4L rear 9.75" 34 splines
4wd front 4.6L & 5.4L 8.8" and 28 spline
