Default Lifter Noise on 04 5.4 Liter?

I have an 04 with a 5.4 with only 50k miles on the clock. Last week i started to here a slight tick in the engine that sounds like a lifter or something in the upper engine. Truck was due for an oil change so i changed the oil myself and still same noise....noise goes away at higher rpms...has anyone else experienced this? could it possibly be an exhaust leak at the manifold? im not the best with engines by any means but its something that doesnt sound quite right....any help would be fantastic! its freaking me out!!!

yea i have listened to videos on youtube of the dreaded cam phaser noise and it sounds like a very faint version of that...feel a little better that it may just be a ford 3v issue...i just dont understand why there are so many trucks out there with this issue

My truck does the same thing it has 59,000 miles oil always changed on time. When I pull in a drive through it sounds alot worse! I dont like it but Ford cant tell me what causes it.

some yahoo on youtube was stating it can be caused from someone running 10w 30 in the engine...stated that it is too thick and cant get to the right parts to lubricate? ive only used 5w 20 since ive owned my truck....he also said run some sort of octane booster or something to clear out carbon build up? this guy is talkin out his ***** isnt he?....

what problems can the cam phasers cause in the long term? i ask bc this is my daily driver and from reading on other site ppl talk about spending 4k to have this issue fixed....way outta my meezly police salary budget!!!

I run one of the best and lightest synthetics AMSOIL 0w20. Its still does it and AMSOIL says that they get this question alot. I run Lucas Injection cleaner and booster and it doesnt do anything for this problem.

My dealership told me the same. That it's not worth fixing the phasers because it just comes right back. And that eventually it might get worse. In the end the worst case scenario is new heads which cost more than a new engine, so new engine. This problem sucks but I still love my truck.
