Thanks for the link - what a great article.

Best that I know of personally is my neighbours 1969 350 LeSabre - 365,000 miles before selling it with NO problems ever and only basic maintenance. Car looked new when sold.

Also a neighbours 1977 Pontiac TransAm. 400CID at 400,000 miles with basic maintenance. Daily driver and the car looks good inside and out.

Invest in good oil. Synthetic is superb to non/part-synthetics (if you want details, I can indulge you with a good bit of information on the properties of both oils and the reason as to why synthetics far exceed regular oil. honestly though, its really boring). Invest in a good oil filter. Some people are okay with the cheap fram filters (no offense!). Personally, I dont mind spending a little more for a proven better filter since I paid quite a bit for the vehicle. If you run with a K&N (or similar to) air filter, I'd probably change my oil a little more often/sooner than I would otherwise. Even though those air filters give you better performance and gas mileage, it also is a bit more porous than a standard paper filter and doesnt filter quite as efficiently as a paper filter. Otherwise, how could you gete the increased air flow? Ironically, K&N makes one of the better oil filters on the market, just fyi. Other than that, all that I've read points to regular maintenance. Follow your book the truck came with if you're not sure on when to do the maintenance. If you do all that, the rest is up to the Ford gods as to whether or not it will last. Sometimes, its just out of our control!

I have a 1999 F 150 with the 5.4 Liter V-8, 4WD. I change the oil every 3,000 miles and she has 359,000 miles on her. I have replaced 2 alternators, one rear axle bearing on the left side and just this last week I had to replace the airflow sensor. Still runs really strong and I so not ever intend on selling her. Great truck!!
