a couple of questions about a leveling kit. first, what am i looking at in terms of difficulty and know-how? second, how do i know what size leveling kit i need to buy....how/what do i measure? thanks for the help!

There are 2 popular choices... I have not installed either... I am going to install the Bilstein 5100s that level 2". There is also the autospring style. These come in 1.5, 2 or 2.5 most common. I like a slight 'rake' after leveled and the photos I have researched I like 2" the best. 2.5 nearly looks like the front is a tad higher than the back, but often it isn't.

There is write up after write up with pics on how to install. Seems easy for either... Make sure to align the vehicle after!!

yeah, but it is true that some trucks vary in height from stock, so how do i measure or know what kit to buy? a 2" kit may work for one guy, but someone else might use a 1.5" or 1" kit b/c it works out better for them

You can park your truck on a level surface and measure your tire to fender well on the front and back... But still, either kit could still vary 1/2" or so...

Hopefully someone that has installed one will be more help...

I installed rough country's 2 inch leveling kit on my 05 FX4 Screw and it leveled in perfectly without putting the cv's at an extreme angle and it only took me 2 hours, granted i had a lift and impact guns.

I put a 3" firestone level in mine. It took about 2 hours only because of all the beer drinking breaks. Super easy to put in.
I have spare spacers for the rear leafs to level it out brand new never used if anyone is interested.
i decided to go with airbags, you can adjust the rear to what height works for you.

I just put an autospring 2 1/2" kit in mine. It actually lifted the front 2 3/4". Truck now sits 1/4" higher in the front than the rear. Took me 1 1/2 hours by myself. WAY easier than I thought it was going to be. Spent most of the time trying to get the upper balljoint to let go (DONT USE A FORK TO SEPERATE!) The seal will not like it. Truck has factory ride with some plusses. It no longer dips going into corners and no longer tries to endo while stopping. Was going to put airbags in the rear but my buddy just ordered rear lift shackles for his. Since his truck was rear ended couple days ago hes going to give them to me when they come in. Free is good enough for me If the 2.5" kit was 2.75" then maybe the 2" kit will be 2.25" ? Way easier to lift the rear to match the front after than to re-order larger spacers to clear the 35's later.
