Found it! It's close to the original recommendations in the picture, but it's behind your driver's side B-pillar trim (driver's side corner of the back wall plastic trim piece). From the service manual:

VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE - REGULAR CAB
Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Prior to the removal of the vehicle security module, it is necessary to upload the module configuration information to the diagnostic tool. This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed.

1. Remove the LH B-pillar trim panel.
2. Disconnect the 2 vehicle security module electrical connectors.
3. Remove the 2 screws and the vehicle security module.

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
