Default led replacement

I'm thinking about getting led lights for my exterior. I heard they last longer, are brighter, etc. I checked online and theyre pretty cheap too. any suggestions?

Don't put them into your taillight assemblies (brake/parking lights) without knowing that you'll need load resisters to keep the cruise control functionality. The cruise activation/deactivation triggers off of the brake light bulb current load. The LED bulbs have a low draw, which disables the cruise control. This is also true with many of the LED taillight assemblies as well. The fix is installing load resisters.

This is what I wanted to do...install LED's for the tailights, front blinkers, and possibly the fog lights...but I havent gotten around to doing much research.

These resistors...didnt I read somewhere on here that they create heat? If so, where do you put them so they can be vented? Is there a central place where you can install these resistors (like near the fuse panel)? Or is there a company that sells the bulbs with built-in resistors?

No bulbs that contain the load resisters that I know of, this is because they need to be large (wattage) to accept the heat they build up. Yes, they can get warm, but I would not be alarmed, as long as you buy them from a reputable place such as brightleds.com or comperable.

You'll also need to buy a new flasher, as the stock flasher will cause the LED blinker lights to flash at ludicrus speed. Again, reputable companies that sell the automotive LED bulbs offer these too. I've even seen them sold at PEP Boys.

Do a search for T/S relays, I put LED's in my T/S and had to replace my flasher relay (cant remember the #, got it at advance auto I think around $15).
If you replace the whole Taillight assembly with a LED unit you may not need the use a resistor, there built in.

I've seen LEDs in tailights, and they definitely don't seem any brighter, they actually seem to inhibit the light output... just my opinion I guess. Maybe I've only seen the cheap ones...

Thanks 8UP & Bucko!

I went to a few of the linked sites and there is great info on there. I did find out that you need a new flashing module and resistors. The prices arent too bad. Now, I just have to research the different vendors and the type of bulbs I want.
