LED door lights
so i had this idea for awhile now. When you open the door, any door, theres no lights on it right for safety or on the ground. so my idea is to install 3 or 5 leds, an odd number looks nicer than an even imo (ocd) inside the door panel facing down onto the ground. this will illuminate the ground and will look fresh as hell.
so i have a few questions,
1. has anyone else thought about this?
2. can someone lead me in the direction to do so, like what i would need and how much to do so?
3. should i go with red or blue LEDs, my truck is red but blue LEDS are the brightest and nowhere near red, red are very dull. nevermind im going with blue hahah
4. can someone give me an estimate for materials, i want to do 3 or 5 per door.. maybe 5 on the two front and 3 on the rears when you open the doors
thanks in advance

Our Avalanche has lights under the left and right mirror that come on when the remote is used to unlock the doors or when the doors are opened. They call them puddle lights. Its the same idea that you are thinking, but shine when the door is closed. That is more of what I would go for.

Morning fordct2002,
much like NGM stated, I got them on my Freestyle. They are mounted under the outside rear view mirrors. They are courtesy lights. Not overly bright, but enough that no one could hide next to the car before I got in.
When I hit the command start at night all the lights come on, including the "puddle lights". No, I don't have any pics to show you. Also, there isn't any on the interior of the door, although I have seen some on higher priced vehicles.

i know what your talking about. i have them on my explorer in the mirrors and it shows more light onto the truck then around the vehicle. i just want something different and i think when you open the door that would look way cooler than just on the mirror.

It cant be that hard, go to radioshack, pick up some led's and capasitors, and wire them up. You ould probally tie into the saftey light already on the door for power. Just drill littel holes in the bottom of the plastic door panel, and hot glue them in place.
The materials should cost less than 20 bucks.
