05 5.4 tune up and extras
Ive got an 05 5.4L with about 84K, maganaflow exhaust and superchips tune that I usually keep on stock anyways. Im doing a tune up on it including all fluids/ flushes, plugs coils, everything a normal tune up would call for. My question is is there anything I should just go ahead and do since im putting the time and money aside to work on it? Ie. Pvc valve etc.... also as far as differential fluids from what ive seen stick with what ford recommends, do y'all agree? Anything I'm better off stepping up on while im doing it?

Differential just use the right weight. I used royal purple. Do the front too.

Plugs, duh. And I forget the name for it but that black electrical apparatus along the frame rail under the box. It always rusts out. Oh and the fuel filter. Those always get plugged up.

You pull the fuel pump relay start the truck and let it idle till it dies that will relieve the pressure, fyi you want to do that for safety high pressure fuel + skin = possible injection not a good combo. Anyhow that aside the other item you are referring to is the fuel control module on the frame by the spare, its a good idea to remove it and insulate it with some rubber to prevent galvanic corrosion from killing it, I also add a thin layer of dielectric grease to the bolts to aid in prevention of this module failing. Always a good idea to remove and give your throttle body a good cleaning with throttle body cleaner and clean the maf with some good contact cleaner (do not use brake clean as this can possibly melt the plastic). The fuel filter is mounted in the frame rail passenger side with 2 clips holding the quick connects on, clean them out with some compressed air or penetrant prior to removal dirt gets in there and can make removal of the clips difficult, depending on the filter it may have new clips in it.

There is NO need to pull relays or bleed off pressure for a fuel filter change. Just shut your truck off, get under the truck, and disconnect your fuel filter with a fuel line disconnect tool.. Bring a small cup under there with you to catch residual fuel that will spill.... Pour the old filters gas into a clear glass so you can see just how dirty the fuel filter can get.
While your under there, take a look around. Wiggle the driveshafts, check for exhaust leaks, rust, fluid leaks, stains, worn bushings, and for any part of the truck that is starting to look worn. It's good practice and it will familiarize yourself with your truck.

Unscrew the fuel cap - it will at least relieve pressure on the downward side of the fuel line - let it sit for a bit after running - no problems - you WILL get gas on yourself and the floor -but it didn't come squirting out, just ran down my arm and was cold as hell. Wear rubber gloves and be prepared with soak up rags to place up there to catch the flow, with a plastic bucket to place the filter (which will drain when removed) and to place under the flowing line. Hardest part is getting the little damned clips on and off - with the metal tool - no problem...can do it easily without even lifting the truck, unless you are blessed with abundance [that is, a beer belly]. Yessir, I am blessed. Don't hate me cause I am beautiful, and drink more beer than you...
