Knock sensors
Well my truck is throwing a code for a knock sensor. My question is what will happen if I don't change them. You have to take the intake manifold off to replace them and I'm not sure its worth the cost or trouble.

Is your engine knocking?
What code is being thrown?
If you don't change it... It will probably keep throwing the code. But I've come to find out that just because a code is thrown for.one thing, doesn't mean that's the problem with these trucks.

In other words, are the codes indicating that your engine is knocking, meaning the knock sensors are doing their job correctly?
Or are you saying there's a code that says the knock sensor(s) are bad?

After simply typing in "P0330" into the google search window, the second entry provided a link that stated:
A code P0330 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A code P0330 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
- The "B" knock sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
- There is a wiring short/fault in the knock sensor circuit
- Check the resistance of the knock sensor on bank 2 (compare it to factory specs) Check for broken/frayed wires leading to the sensor
- Replace the knock sensor on bank 2

If you don't care about trashing your engine then no their not important. Sensors provide feedback to the pcm to add/subtract timing and change other variables to keep the engine running properly and keep the engine from destroying itself.

So in simple terms, if they are malfunctioning, your engine can knock, and the PCM would not know to retard the timing, causing additional knock, possible holes in your pistons from the detonation, valve seat damage from the valves being pushed back into their seats, and lousy performance.
I'd see if they are indeed bad, and replace them if so.

I'm having the same problem with my 94 5.0 its sending a code for the knock sensor and the engine is pinging here and there and extreme power loss. I was wonder what exactly does a knock sensor actually do??

You should change it. Over time they corrode and it stops sending the right signals.
It makes your ecu think your engine is knocking and retards the timing. This decreases power and economy. It's a bitch to change, but worth it. If you're handy around your car, you can get it done in an hr or 2
