Default Key expert- PATS questions?

I have on 06 lariat with both original keys. I had 2 keys made up at Home depot where they said they could "clone" my key. So I said OK- I'll take 2.

I get out to the truck and BOTH cloned keys work just fine. They were both cloned off only 1 original key and I kept one hidden inside the truck in case I lost or forgot my key- I could unlock the door with the keypad and use the hidden key to use the truck. Worked great until one day I take the truck to the depot (using the hidden key) and when I come out, the hidden key no longer works... just the fast flash on the dash. I tried 50 times - flipping the key over- getting out and back in ... no go. I call my wife to bring my other key and when she gets there- she actually brought the 2nd cloned key but it worked! I get home and I try the key that didn't work before... and it now works.

My cloned keys are now intermittent. Sometimes they work- sometimes they don't BUT the really odd thing is- If I use my remote start (aftermarket)- the truck starts and continues to run with a cloned key that wouldn't start the truck.

Any clues? Could it be my remote start, pats or has anyone had cloned keys work on and off?

Have you dropped your keys? A drop could have damaged the resistor inside them. You may also have an issue with the immobilizer on the vehicle, since they seem to work on and off...

no- no dropping of keys. Plus- they work- don't work, then work and don't work again and again. They are unreliable. If it were the immobilizer, wouldn't that also impact the factory keys? they always seem to work... as does the remote start.

Couple questions. Do your original keys work fine? Just the cloned keys that act up? In the key is a chip that uses RFID signal no resistor.

Sorry just saw that the originals always work. I would say its a cheap key. Some have very weak signals in the chips and may not reach far enough. I don't know much about the clones other than they wont work to program new keys. I always just bought keys off ebay, had a locksmith cut them then programmed them myself and never had any problems with cheap ebay keys other than they just simply don't work at all sometimes.
