It means not enough fuel for the quantity of air in the combustion chamber. Rather than me type a bunch of stuff, read this to get started.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air-fuel_ratio

After that, do a search on other F150 forums and/or http://forum.gopowerhungry.com/

Even with a 24 inch tube on it to let in more air it will not improve performance more than what the stock ratio table is capable of. Without a custom tune, the Gotts mod will provide all the air the stock fuel table can handle. Based on all the research I've done, if you have a 2004-2005 5.4L, you run the risk (just a risk as the factory tunes were already close to lean) of running lean with any intake mod unless you have a custom tune to account for the increased air.
^ I'm with you. 04-05 is known for running lean, and SOME 06's.

To answer your question, either is fine. I have a Airaid CAI, my buddy has a Airaid CAI also and he likes it.

I know a few people running K&N also. They seem happy.

From what I'm seeing I might actually go with S&B. Similar performance/price to the other two and it looks a little cooler. I don't think there's a huge performance difference between any of these, unless I'm misinformed.
