Default k&n cold air intake install problems please help

so i just bought a cold air k&n intake, after installing it and following all directions, i turn it on. it was running just fine. i turned the car off and made sure everything was tight and good to go, i touched the maf sensor and made sure it was plugged in good, i turned it back on and it begins idle really funny going in and out and turning off eventually.

i took the car to ford before i screw anything else up and they want 80 to check it out and possibly another 280 plus labor for the maf sensor- if that is the problem.

What engine? What year?

What did K&N say when you asked them?

Any codes?

Is it under warranty?

did you over oil your new filter or is it a dry filter...too much oil on your filter will interfer with the maf sensor operation... did you see a cel...if its the oil on the maf...pull it out and clean it with some carb cleaner...

I had the same problem when I 1st installed my K&N too.
I figured it out pretty quickly. The gasket and the ring that I installed by the TB was sticking out. Had to remove it all and place it in correctly.
Could be the same for you... but maybe not.

A new kit would not require any oiling of the filter, so lets hope that's not the case.

Check all clamps for looseness; sounds like an air leak.

If it doesn't, put the stock intake back on the truck. If the problem is still there, then you may have damaged the MAF.

Does K N make a dry filter for a 2005 4.6L? Do you know the part number? Is it as good as the oiled?
