K&N cold air intake??
I have a 2005 model STX 4.2 v6 and I'm looking to get the most power I can get. Will I be able to tell a difference in gas milage and horse power with the cold air?

Rolltide,
I have the 5.4L, and installing the CAI from K&N didn't work out for me. At first it was amazing dude. Throttle response was unreal, acceleration at WOT was amazing, my 40-series Flowmaster growled LOUD, and my mileage was better on the HWY. That lasted about 800 miles or so and I guess the PCM had reached a steady state level for airflow (or whatever - but about 800 miles my truck started "rejecting the transplanted organ" - if you will). I ran lean the whole time and ended up fouling my cats pretty bad, started misfiring real bad, and bogged me down on WOT. I got rid of it and went with the drop in K&M and the truck runs "better", but not like it used to... I think I will need to change out all of my sparkplugs and COPs - which on these trucks is a PITA... From personal experience --> Unless you get a custom tune, DO NOT USE A CAI ON THESE TRUCKS!! It cannot handle the increase in air volume and will run extremely lean... (the 5.4L runs almost lean inherently, and this mod really pushes it over edge)... Don't know if this is at all relevant for you engine - but what I have learned from my experience is that a CAI is more trouble than it's worth... There are better ways to make improvements...

The K&N is a good mod but you will also need to run a custom tune. A better flowing exhaust would also be good. If you are going to do it, do it right. Don't count on seeing much of a gain on MPG's, if you see any at all. However, your truck will run better.
