Just bought 2008 XLT, possible engine and 4x4 issues
So I just bought a 2008 XLT with 128K miles and thought it ran and drove perfectly when I bought it. Now every once and a while I will hear a grinding noise coming from the front right side that sounds like a card in bike spokes. After researching, I believe this could be a vacuum leak or bad IWE. I replaced the IWE solenoid but still having issues.
The more concerning part is the issue I had after I drove the truck for about 15 minutes and then pulled into the drive through. When stopped the engine dropped to about 500 RPMs and started a loud knock. After revving the engine it fixed the issue for a bit. It then occurred again so I shut the truck off, let it sit for a couple minutes and started back up with absolutely no noise and drove it home with no noise at all. Also, the oil pressure never decreased. Thinking about making an appointment with the dealer, but don't have tons of money to spend. Also, when in 4th gear and giving it gas it stutters until it drops down into 3rd to pick up power. Please HELP!

sounds like you need a tune up and a couple IWE's and you should be set...

Got to love the drive throughs you think your truck idles like a champ until your stopped at one.
Yeah I would start with some basic maintenance tune up stuff if it hasn't already been done like plugs, coils, clean throttle body and MAF stuff like that certainly wouldn't hurt. FYI you said the oil pressure didn't drop I believe the 2008 F150, like most, have an idiot gauge for oil pressure, meaning you either have sufficient pressure or you dont, might just as well be a light, it isn't a fluctuating gauge.
