Default IWE Solenoid

Good afternoon,

I have a 2004 F-150 5.4 with 79k. Just purchased the truck last January and its been a Nightmare. Anyway, I have the grinding sound coming from the hubs that dissapears when the truck is put into 4 wheel drive. Used to occur once every couple months but now its everyday. Can you tell me if Napa part number 600-3580 is the correct updated solenoid for this issue? I also bought 2 new "4 wheel drive actuators" Napa number 600-3608 ($119 a piece). The teeth were showing wear when I tore it apart last weekend but noone had parts in stock. SO, I spent the extra 240 but I am really thinking about trading the truck in and just returning those parts if the solenoid alone will fix the issue?

Thanks,

Josh

Josh, sorry to hear about the issue. I went to my Ford dealership and bought the solenoid for $30 and installed it in 5 minutes. I had the same exact sound that you were describing.

Yup. Any of the F150 before 07 didn't get the hood to cover the solenoid. So any moisture that got in would short it out, causing the vacuums to only partially disengage, locking the hubs. As soon as I replaced my solenoid the noise stopped and my vacuum lines worked properly.

More like the solenoid does not seat right. Either way vacuum is needed at both IWE to DISENGAGE the hubs at about 5" of Hg your get the partial engagement, the grinding noise.

There is a couple check valves in there to.
Just throwing new parts in there and not fixing the real problem will cost more money in the long run.
Get one of these and do some testing http://www.harborfreight.com/brake-b...kit-69328.html

And do some reading here

Good point. However, if it is the old solenoid without the rain hood, it's worth the $30 to replace it.
