Default IWE Problems still after actuator and solenoid?????

OK guys I know you have probably heard a lot on this subject and it has helped me out a lot, but now im stuck and need some help!! I had the IWE problem and I changed the actuator and the solenoid (twice) and it is still rattling. The only thing I havent changed is the hub assembly itself....could this be the problem? It only does it when in 2wd and when locked into 4H it goes away. Like I said I JUSt literally changed the actuator yesterday and the solenoid again today, and it wont go away? Do i need to change the hub? PLEASE HELP!!!

First thing you need to check is the vacuum box behind your battery. Remove your battery and tray and you'll see a black box with a line going into it. Disconnect the line and remove the box. The box is made out of two pieces of plastic and can seperate. I was in the same boat as you and my box was split in two pieces. I took some RTV and sealed it up and haven't had a problem since.

If your box is in good shape, get yourself a vacuum pump and start checking the lines from the solenoid to the actuator. There are a few check valves in line (2 to 4, I can't remember) and you need to check those too. Be careful if you're blowing air through the lines to clean them out, those check valves are pretty weak and can break. This process is a royal pain but worth doing before you start throwing serious money into this.

If it's making noise in 2WD and not in 4WD it's almost certain to be a vacuum leak issue. If a hub was faulty you would have noise in 4WD. Check for leaks in the lines, check that both check valves are working properly, etc.

I had to have my hub replaced after finding out the seal behind it was letting in moisture and on cold days would freeze and not fully disengage the 4wd. It would click/grind in 2wd and go away in 4hi

Default Just curious

I know this is an old post but, mine started making this noise the day after i had a new engine put in the truck. Are they some how related in any way, I guess what I am wondering is if they would have to disconnect the solenoid or vacuum lines to remove the old motor?

Thanks for any input

Yes they would...almost 100 % sure you have a vacuum problem...chase the lines...and there are 2 check valves in this system.

Either that or your actuators might actually have a split in them also. I'd take a vacuum to the actuators them selves and see if you have a leak there first.
