Default IWE or Bearing or Really Confused...

Hey guys....

Might have a new one for you.....

I've read a ton on the IWE symptoms, and wheel bearing symptoms are well... wheel bearing symptoms....

My wheel play is almost non-existent when I jack it up and give it a few kicks up top or crow bar the bottom of the wheel......

My 4 wheel drive works... and pulls out.... after a period of time...(takes usually quite awhile of driving for it to come out...)

I replaced the Solenoid on the firewall with the rainroof with no difference....

Now ... for my symptom: Truck makes a grinding noise when I first start out.... aka once I hit 2 or 3 mph... the truck will grind one half wheel rotation... and maybe one more after that... and then viola... gone never heard from again... even from a stop again..

If the truck only sits for 10 minutes (like if i'm in a store with the engine off) it does not make the sound at all.....

I'm leaning toward IWE... but for which one... clueless....

U joints maybe too? (76,000 on the clock)

Got the rest of the symptoms too.... death wobble, VCT tick etc... but I beat it up pretty good and never left me stranded......

~Mike

i would get a vacume tester and test the IWE's and the vacume lines. i had replaced the soleniod and kept having the same probs until i replaced both IWE's and the vacume lines. once water gets into the system you have to replace the whole thing sorry to break the bad news but thats just the way it is. any moister in the vacume system makes the whole thing go bad. i learned the hard way and in the end i had to replace both iwe's and vac lines and soleniod.

Replacing Vac lines and both IWE's is what I dreaded..........

Thing is....even if I rev up the truck in park after its been sitting or try to let it warm up a bit idling.... it still will grind the first few half rotations then its gone......

I can't pinpoint which wheel either and I havent been able to jack up the front and find the culprit yet either (which halfshaft does/doesn't turn)

Anyone have a recommneded source on vac lines and IWE actuators.....

Rock Auto does NOT have them listed... (or I'm an idiot which is entirely possible too)

Best I could find via google search on the OEM # was around $100 a pop....

Im Having the same problem, except mine always grinds and seems to only do it while Im accelerating. I have already replaced the IWE valve with the new up dated hooded one. My next step is to get a vaccum tester and see if I can figure out if the lines are bad. Pretty stupid to be having these kind of problems I have an 06 Screw 4x4 with 45K on it. Seems a little early to me for having these type of issues.
