SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE/INTERMITTENT
OPERATION - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 5/17/2004
FORD:
2004 F-150
This article supersedes TSB 04-20-01 to update the Service Procedure.
ISSUE
Some 2004 F-150 vehicles with a floor mounted gear selector lever, built on or before 5/17/2004, may exhibit intermittent or no operation from the speed control system.
ACTION
Monitor the brake on/off (BOO) PID. Verify that BOO reads correctly and that it does not change state when moving the gear selector lever. Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
CAUTION BE SURE TO CHOCK THE VEHICLE'S WHEELS TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING.
1.With the gear selector in PARK, brake NOT applied, engine OFF and the ignition key in the RUN position, monitor the BOO PID.
a.If BOO indicates "ON", replace the brake shift interlock switch. If BOO indicates "OFF" proceed to Step b.
b.Apply the brake, move the gear selector to the Drive position and release the brake. If BOO PID reads "ON" (or intermiffently "ON"), replace the brake shift interlock switch. If BOO never indicates "ON" proceed to Step c.
c.With the brake NOT applied, move the gear selector lever into different gear positions while monitoring BOO. If the BOO PID reads "ON" (or intermittently "ON"), replace the brake shift interlock switch. If this procedure does not identify the cause follow normal diagnostics per workshop manual.
