Default Interesting cam phasing observation

I bought a Gryphon used some time ago and installed it. I never messed with the settings much other than to set my truck on the Level 2 Tow program.

The other day I decided to see what was in the custom setting options. Stock, it displayed speed, RPM, engine coolant temp, and transmission temp. I swapped RPM and coolant temp for instant fuel economy and camshaft position.

According to everything I've read about the VCT system, it's not supposed to start working until the engine oil reaches normal operating temperature. Well, the VCT on my truck starts operating no matter what the oil temp is. At 68°, VCT is at zero at idle but as soon as I give it gas it starts retarding the camshafts. At cruising speed the camshafts are retarded between 49 and 52°.

Guess I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this. I do have cam phaser noise once the engine is warm. I find it strange that they start working right away no matter what the engine temp.

The limit on oil temp is pretty low I forget the exact number but I think it's around 50F. What you observe is normal.

What are your engine load readings when you see vct activate?

I didn't have the engine load parameter pulled up, but I can see the cam adjust in neutral just by revving it or even holding a steady RPM above idle.
