Will a 4.6 k&n intake filter fit on my 5.4?

No, the 4.6 uses a cone style, the 5.4 uses a flat panel style.

Today I have been running around with nothing for a hose or the plastic on my stock intake. How bad is that? It has the filter on the throttle body so

It's not going to hurt anything. If its getting fresh air through the cowl, you're probably a push for stock performance. If its breathing hot air from under the hood you're going to lose some degree of power.

Also, do yourself a favor and DONT put a K&N filter in it. They don't filter worth a crap, and they'll foul the MAF with oil residue. I put one in my first 7.3 years ago, and several months down the road I pulled the filter and noticed a coating of dust in the intake tube.

Two days ago my son bought a used F150 with a K&N and we noticed the same thing. We cleaned the MAF and temp sensor, and then promptly S-canned the filter.

AEM dryflow all day every day. Dont buy that Spectre crap either. Total garbage. They have been sued for their false filtering claims.

This is false when installed new; it's only when they are cleaned and OVER oiled by those that don't follow directions that may cause the MAF to get oil on it. Unfair to blame the manufacturer for that.

Fair enough. I will however continue to blame them for the dust in the intake tube (and engine obviously ), which is by far the greater evil.
