Default Insurance wants to total this!

I was hit by a drunk driver a week ago. Insurance called and wants to total my truck! The damage was fairly minimal. What should I do? Help!

I'd let them total it and buy it back. Door skin and bed skin would be cheap. But getting that cab fixed is gonna be tough. Trying to pull out that dent, make it right again so the gaps all line up won't be cheap or easy. How many miles are on the truck?

They normally total things if there is frame damage.. why not met them total it, get the check and buy a better one

If that damaged the frame then I'm a little worried on the frame strength of these vehicles.

Thats an easy fix, no different on the cab than the cab corners having to be replaced. I am guessing this is an 06 or older with many miles. Many insurance companies total 10 year old vehicles with high miles when the repair cost exceeds a certain percent of the trucks value. Somethings not being told here.

The insurance "number" is usually at 80% cost of repair to the vehicles worth. So if the truck is worth (example only) $10,000.00, and the repair is going to cost $8,000.00, they will total it.
If it has any type of frame damage, I'd let them total it, and thank them for doing so.

That number varies from state to state. Yes, any frame damage, good riddance.

depends on what number they throw at you. I actually totaled my 99 or should I say the other driver. Their insurance which ironically was the same insurer as mine really low balled me. For instance- $45 for my $500 cap, $75 for my new $800 tires and so on. I could have bought the truck back for like $500 and parted it out. They started at $3,600 or so to replace my truck saying they were available for that price. What a joke. I spent many hours and yelling at them phone calls and ended up with $7,200. I also hit them for $2,000 in lost wages which they fought less for all because they want you to sign off on any physical damage to yourself. Its all about the money and lawsuits. Do your homework and find out what your truck is worth retail not private or wholesale and go from there. The final number will determine what you do with it but also remember that if you ever want to re sell it being determined totaled then you might run into some problems. You have to sign all kinds of paperwork when dealing with a totaled vehichle when you buy it back etc. Its a pain because all of this hassle is caused by someone else. I used to not believe in petty lawsuits but now I have changed my stance. It took me over a month to get my new/used truck

Yes it's an 04 with 133xxx. It's runs perfectly and I've taken care of it.
