Default instrument cluster compatibility

I have a 2004 Lariat that the instrument cluster needs replacing. I've found a 2005 Lariat cluster. My question is will they interchange? Both are Lariat clusters but the difference is where my gauge that shows gear selection on my 04 shows Lariat on the 2005. I've been unable to locate an 04 one just like mine.

No I have column shift. The speedometer quit working. It failed the gauge test and it stayed stuck on 120 mph for a while.

You can unbolt the 'Lariat' cover from the back and it should work fine on yours. However, you may have to take it to the dealer to get the mileage corrected.

The replacement cluster may have a blank "plate" (usually with the model name) that was used in the floor shift equipped trucks. This plate easily pulls out (two tabs that you press in and pull it out), and your shift indicator plate slides in and snaps into place.

As stated, your mileage would have to be flashed on the replacement cluster if you want to be legal.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input. Can I also change the cluster bulbs to a different color on this unit?

The bulb that illuminates the lower right information center uses a different bulb (brighter) then the others; this is to allow the information center to be seen during daylight hours.

Best way to tell is pull your cluster. On my 2000 7.3 the faces of the gauges actually had a faint green film on them that made for the green color. You Could scrape it off but not a lot of people went for it. I just went with dimmable green LEDs for behind. Best way to tell is pull the cluster and look at the lights back there.

Also just be aware color changing your AC, Radio, Window switches all are a nightmare if you want them to match.
