installing a power sliding rear window
#21
Mine is done, part trois...
This post, pics are as follows:
First, done from the outside.
Second, done from the inside. And then the wait began! I ordered the switch, but it hadn't arrived yet, so I had to wait to see if it was all going to work.
When it came today, I popped down the overhead center console and removed the part in the third pic.
The fourth pic is of the box w/part number of the switch.
And the last pic is the switch installed...and it works perfectly! I just need to find the appropriate trim piece that goes around the switch now. All the wiring was there. From what I was reading in the owners manual, the defroster switch for the mirrors is also the switch for the rear window. Now that it's milder weather, I'm going to have to wait to see if that is true later this year.
Other side notes about this mod;
That butyl weatherstripping is a MESS to work with. You have to get all the old stuff off the truck before attempting to put on the new. It took HOURS to clean it off the truck & off the replacement power slider (I bought it from a salvage yard, and they obviously didn't clean it off).
Once cleaned off, I bought at NAPA a 15' roll of new butyl for the install, and I used the 3/8" size. After I got it installed, we had rain for a couple of days--sometimes downpours--with no leaks.
Hopefully this helps someone else considering this "mod". Let me know if you have any questions.

I paid 250 for it; the switch was 28 and change; I forgot what the nuts & bolts, and the new butyl cost; and I still have to get that small trim piece.

Just finished installing mine last night, worst part was taking the old glue off really a pain in the butt, all in all from start to finish just under 4 hours. Motor mounted right up pluged in to all existing harnesses and was a very smooth mod. Here are some pics i finished at 1 am last night so some are a little dark thanks for the write up's above to help me get through this !
