Ok, since it's been two years, and I still have this rattle () I decided to revive this thread. Couple of points to make, for those of you who are just now joining us today (haha);
  • Rattle is located directly above the dome light in the back of the truck
  • Rattle stops/lessens dramatically whenever the sunroof is in the open position, or if the dome light is physically pushed up further to the ceiling (closing any gap that was left)

Since the rattle stops whenever the sunroof is open (goes back, and therefore above the dome light), wouldn't that make putting any material above the dome light to prevent the rattle from happening when the sunroof is closed (glass forward) cause an issue when the sunroof is open? Meaning, will the sunroof have issues opening, or closing if something is put in place to solve this rattle? Another question, I attempted (a while ago) to "take off," the rear dome light. However, I only got as far to remove the clear plastic to replace the bulb, because I felt as if the dome light would get ripped off if I pulled anymore. If the best way to attack this rattle is to go through the dome light, does anyone have any tips of doing so, such as removal. Any other infomation regarding this rattle would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, and hopefully this rattle can be put to sleep for me, but also for the other 04-08's with this issue.

My Dad had an 04 FX4 with a sunroof that had the exact rattle you are describing. It wasn't my truck, buy I rode in it enought that it drove me more crazy than it did him.

I fixed it pretty easily, if I remember correctly (it's been a couple years), I pulled the trim off the dome light and found where something was rattling against the roof/headliner and stuck a can coolee (yes a can coolee, that's what was handy at the time), up there and the rattle was gone.

Hopefully you have access to an unwanted can coolee.

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the fix would you? When I did my attempt I pulled off the rear dome light (or at least as much as it can drop down since it's on a hinge, I think) and removed the bulb, but then there was barley any room to even look, or work with anything else. I'll try this method again obviously, but I don't know how mcuh success it will bring me. Nonetheless, thank you for your input and info! Oh, and lol at the coolee comment.

Sorry man, no pictures. From what I remember, the whole dome light housing popped out, I think it was just clipped in (I don't remember for sure, might want to do a search on that). What I do remember is the space was big enough to get my hand into to feel around for whatever was loose and rattling. I would carefully work the edges of the housing with your fingers and see if it pops out, be careful not to break anything in case it's fastened in somehow.

Condolences to you mr. Irish on the game last night. I hate Alabama and the SEC as they win the championship evey year it seems. Still not a bad year for your Irish.

did you put a LED light in the dome with an adapter? I bought a LED light that was not exact replacement and thought it was my backseat. I had my wife withme and she founf this to be the area. Drives me crazy at the hunting club so I am removing until i get the exact fit LED. Doubt it is the same problem but just somethiing to think of for everyone.

Oh, ok. Well, hopefully sometime this week I can take a good look at it. I may not have known that the entire light fixture came out. I'll keep the thread updated once I'm able to work on it again. BTW, thanks again!

Haha, sad. Thanks for your support. It's all good. Indeed Notre Dame had an outstanding year, and just because we lost the Championship doesn't take the rest of the season away. I know how you feel about Alabama (and the SEC, haha). They're a good team with good players, and unfortuetly I can't respect all of them. However, I can respect AJ McCarron though, ever since last year when he noted his scout team before any other players on the team. It does get annoying hearing all the talk about the SEC, but I guess unless someone takes it from them then they can still talk. Besides, there was only talk about being in the middle of the Alabama dynasty, and nothing about being at the beginning of Notre Dame's.

No, I don't have any LED light bulb, or adapter in the rear dome light. Thanks, for the thought though. Good luck to you on fixing it.

Made some progress... I succesfully removed the rear dome light fixture, which was scary, but simple after knowing it would work without breaking. There are two clips near the front of the rear dome light (after removing the clear lid), and once they are pushed back then the front pulls out, the back comes out shortly after. I got the idea of the clips from this thread; https://www.f150forum.com/f2/rear-do...housing-27598/. After removing the fixture I took pictures (and a video) of above the head liner, and what is most likely my issue. There are two black foam-looking blocks (one to the right of the dome light and one to the left. These are what seem to be making the rattleing noise. The noise is less without the dome light in, but I'm sure these are the majority of the problems, and that the dome light only echoes the rattle made by these blocks. Now, I am thinking of what to do next. Here are some pictures from the operation.

PS: Don't mind the attachment. I didn't attach any picture, so something weird happened.

Seriously, that's the exact same problem I had. The rattle is caused by the fact that the foam blocks aren't tight against the roof anymore, every little bump causing them to contact the roof and rattle. You just need to stick something between the blocks and roof to make them tight again and it will disappear, I promise! In my case, I used can coolees.

I want to see you fix this!
