insane MPG Increase all of the sudden! WTF??
Hey guys, So I drive a single cab 2008 4wd 8ft bed. It has 33's on it and is leveled with a few very minor other upgrades like newer mirrors and such, but that's it as far as anything that could possibly effect mpg. I bought it Last november and since day 1 was gettign 14.1-14.4mpg. That was highway and city combined.
Well i got a new job driving 33 miles each way all highway about two months ago and still, was sitting at 14.5mpg. A few weeks ago though, I filled an empty tank and was at 15.5. I thought this was weird, well keep reading.
So I drove another 200 miles and noticed that I was just under 3/4 tank instead of around 1/3 tank like usual. I filled up and was at 18.98mpg! Out of freaking no where, no driving pattern changes etc. I just let the tank run close to dry again and filled up then and was at 16 mpg, and yesterday at topping off I was at 17.5mpg.
can anyone maybe offer an explanation for this?? I'm absolutely not complaining, but it is leaving me puzzled.

Highway commute is much more efficient then stop and go. If your commute is at like 50mph you might get close to those numbers. If you're getting the fuel consumption data from edge or bulldog then those numbers are bogus.

Sure it was a 4.6L, Was the airfilter cleaned/changed in between..?
I had never seen anything over 14mpg on my 5.4L, LUCKY you. Wonder if airfilter was cleaned or changed that would improve else should be just the additives.

Just Creepin
Ive done 18.5-18.8mpg on a few different long distance trips. 5.4L Screw 6.5'. Stock everything.
But yes, there is a decent bump in mpg when they switch to summer blend. I can't get to 16mpg or better all winter. It stays at 12-14. All summer it stays over 15mpg, short of any hauling things.
