Default Input on Struts

Want to see what struts some of you guys have gone with and how they did?

I need a strut that can take some good offroad abuse with all the hunting I do but still give me a decent ride around town and freeway. I replaced the struts 3 years ago when I first bought the truck with some Pro Comp 9000 or something like that on the factory springs and they did great for a while but now they're just getting pretty sloppy and unresponsive when I'm in the mountains. I have new HD springs, just sitting, waiting for some struts. The 4x4 shop I go to told me the Bilstiens would be the best before going to Fox coil overs and other places have said go with the KYB. Yes I'd love some Fox coil overs but I'm not going to fork out that kind of $$$$$!!!!

Not sure what your overall budget is but I would just go with a set of Bilstein 5100's.

If you are willing to shell out the $$, go with King or Fox coilovers. This is the best option if you offroad a lot.

At the end, it'll come down to how much you want to spend.

Bilstein is a popular suggestion on here. I had already replaced mine with Tenneco struts before joining the boards, but will be going the Bilstein route when I have to change mine again soon.

Default Bilstein

I changed mine out with the Bilstein HD, and I wish I had gone with the 5100, or even the Sensatracs, I don't go off road nor do I haul heavy equipment, and the ride is rough and pretty stiff. Just FYI.

I went with Bilstein 5100's on my RWD, and couldn't be happier. Adjustable spring seat on the front struts allowed me to level the truck. Ride is strongly dampened (ride "stiffness" is a function of the springs, not shocks!), and product is described as on/off road.

Got a ridiculous deal on mine at raceconsultingagency.com (not affiliated, just paying it forward), though I noticed that 4X4 models were on sale at several online outlets at the time...good luck!

I reused the front springs in my RWD, the ride afterwords was much harsher with new shocks. The the springs just get stiff all of a sudden?
