Default info needed for trans swap.

My cousin just crapped the trans in his 04 Expy, got 5 miles down the road and nothin. pulled the pan to change the filter and check the servos possibly to clean and get working again. They are in VA and I'm in Cali. Pulled the pan and there is metal in the pan.

They want 1900 for a rebuild. I know of a trans from a 99 4.6 Expy for a grand. are they the same and will they bolt in without issue?

thanks in advance.

Do you know what trans he has in it now? Also if he can drop the trans they are actually really easy to rebuild if he is mechanically inclined and can get his hands on a transmission book for that trans

Default trans issue

said he was rollin down the road, 25-30 mph and it was like the truck went into N. limped it back home. he removed the pan to look at the filter and the servos to see if they were dirty/plugged. said there are bits of metal in the pan, has roughly 206K on the Expy. Could the PCM TSB fix this? filtered the old fluid and put it back in, and installed the new filter. Now he's thinking about taking it in tio the dealership to see about the TSB and the Ford renewal program.

I've driven the Expy before and the trans was strong, no slip whine moans groans, clunks, just died.
