Default Increase gas mileage

On a 2008 F-150 I was wondering what are possible options to increase gas mileage and if it really is worth it? What other options would be possible besides getting a superchip?

Just looking for some opinions.

CAI, Exhaust, SCT tuner or Gryphon tuner w. custom tunes.

Honestly, driving habits are the biggest factor.

As for if it is worth it? It is up to you ad what all you want out of your rig.

Agree with SinCity - the most reliable and cost-effective means by which to increase mileage is to alter your driving habits.

Perhaps going to extremes - try not to let the tach exceed 2000 rpm during acceleration, drive 5mph slower than your normal speed on the highways, and anticipate your stops to minimize the use of brakes. On my Grand Prix, was able to go from right at 26mpg to just over 29mpg by these changes alone - over a 10% increase. But, yeah, it was certainly not as much fun.

Of course, keeping the vehicle in good tune is assumed.

Why the concern now that gas has dropped below $2 per gallon in many areas?

Just concerned because I am about to purchase a vehicle. I love Ford and kind of want to size things up and be aware of things when reality comes back into the picture. Thats all.....I'd rather spend the money now for tuning and a chip, rather then when prices are high. How much of an increase would those modifications make? Minor or will you notice a difference...

Increase of MPG's by maybe 1-3 depending on how drive and what you do as far as mods. HP will also be increased buyt if you use it alot your MPG's wil also drop of course.

Don't mod to increase gas mileage and here's why. If you add a CAI, tuner and exhaust you'll spend over $1000 for quality mods. That will gain you 1-3 mpg's (of course the increased HP and fun factor with driving your new truck with these new mods may have an impact and actually decrease your mpg's). So how long is it going to take you to recoup that $1000 in gas savings? Answer, you'll never recover it.

Mod because you want increased performance from your truck with a sidebar being you'll squeeze out a few extra miles and you won't be disappointed.

Depending on how much you drive it may be worth it, Lets say $1000 of mods gives you 3 extra mpg, not that its guaranteed but you might. Someone like me who fills up once every 5-7 days will save approximately $10 every fill up if gas is around $2 per gallon. 3 x 26 =78, 78/15mpg = 5, 5 x 2 = $10. 52 fillups or more every year = over 500 dollars. When gas goes back up which it will to $3+ you will save even more. Thats 2 years for the mods to pay for themselves.

I have a 2008 V6 with a 5 speed. Plain Jane truck. When I'm not pulling anything with it, I shift the gears from first, to third, to fifth, unless the posted speed limit is 30, then I'll use 4th.

I end up getting a little over 2mpg better than running through the gears.

Just be aware, when I bought my 2009, the dealer told me that chipping the truck would void the warrenty. He also told me that with the new diagnostics the shop can tell if it has been chipped even if you take it out before you have it serviced.

thats bs tell him to kiss your ***, they have to prove that it caused failure of a part to void the warranty, its against the law to void it just because of a tuner
