Default I'm no longer driving a Diesel sounding Truck

I was thinking I was having Cam phaser issues with my truck 174K miles even though the oil has been changed to factory specs at 3K miles like clock work. My Mechanic told me he would do the Phaser if I wanted but my issue was with the Fuel injectors. He is a Master Certified Mechanic with 30+ years under his belt. I told him to do what he thought it needed.

One week later my truck is sounding like a regular truck again. Plus he told me with the added control of the New injectors I could expect to see a mileage increase from 17 to 24 in the City and 25 on the highway. I was getting about 14 to 15 depending where I got my gas. I always get a extra 2 MPG with Shell gas but with it always being more $$ I hit up the cheaper stuff. NO MORE CHEAP GAS!!

I'll post back if I see the dramatic MPG increase I'm still a little skeptical of that one.

The mechanic told you that you would see a 7 MPG increase in mileage in the city? You have every right to be skeptical on that claim. Perhaps a 1-2 MPG gain but from 17 to 24 MPG is a 41% jump in MPG's is ridiculous.

"Added control" of the new injectors? Something fishy going on here

1. What did he charge you?
2. Itemized list of all work done?
3. Did you get your old injectors back (you should have)
4. Did he (actually just) change the VCT solenoids to the current revision?
5. Post a pic of the box the 'new' injectors came in

I agree - smells bad... and the mileage claims are an insult to one's intelligence.

I would like to know what he did to get you 24 mpg and if that is what you are getting. I have a 05 5.4 FX4. If you really do get the 24 mpg I would like to know what was done

If you read what I wrote in the OP I'm not saying I'm seeing 24 mpg He told me I could get between 17 to 24 I'm getting 14 now I told him right there I was like is that even possible. Maybe he is giving me a ride who knows I'll find out in a coupe tanks what I'm getting so I'll have facts I would love to see the 17 mpg.

He did charge me I think it was 125-135 for the set of injectors (his cost). 12 hrs labor at 65.00 a hour All told it was right at 900.00 bucks. It took him several days because there was a issue with the wire harness on the back injectors causing to much fuel to flow. But, he told me he has them all set at like 4 lbs of pressure, with the efficiency of the system I could expect to see increased mileage.
I did not ask for the old injectors back nor see the new ones.

All I know is my truck is no longer stalling out, after a drive down the highway I would pull into a lot and it would sputter and choke out and throw a LOW Fuel Code. That I did see on the scanner.
Like I say I'm no mechanic so the proof is in how good it runs now the Mileage would just be a bonus I didn't expect or ask for.
