If your gut is so large that you need to have the seat back to avoid it hitting the steering wheel, and then have the pedals adjusted forward to reach them, you need to loose weight!

While my gut may have gotten larger in my later years, it has not required me to have to slide the seat back too far, and not allowed me to reach the pedals.
I guess if you're undertall for your weight, you'll need this option.
Back to the original topic, I'll guess that this "auto start" thing is for those that have concerns with their thumb and finger.
