^^^^nice. My regulator crapped out on me in my truck. Thankfully it was under warranty still. People are just stupid. They don't understand about wear and tear. Frankly, I think there are too many plastic products in trucks today, mostly from China. I don't mind tearing into most parts of my truck, but I hate doing stuff to the inside. I'm a BIG guy and I always fear I am going to break every plastic clip that holds everything in place. If it weren't for forums like this one and fordf150.net I would have never pulled my dash or door panel apart. Btw about the lubrication comment, yeah I saw the regulator and the workings inside my door while they had it pulled apart at the dealer. It all looks like vaseline. I pulled my door apart and wiped up some excess grease and then squirted some of that badass graphite lube in there. Going to see how that works for me. Works like a charm everywhere else I've used it.

I like threads like these, Some of you Ford owners take issues with your trucks way too personally. People are not attacking you, they are letting others know of problematic areas.

I have no Brand Loyalty, I shop for the best deal on the best vehicle that suits my needs at any given time. I have not had my window break on me(yet). When and If it does, I will fix it. However, this is NOT normal wear and tear for a 30k mile vehicle, Ive never had a power window fail in this manner on any vehicle i've owned, a switch failing, sure, contacts wear over time...but the regulator failing...come on, admit it, it's a quality control issue. Some companies fall short where others may shine is all.

"It costs 3 to 4 hundred bucks to repair"...how do you come up with $1200.00??? You either pay $300.00 or $400.00 to have the window repaired. If you give them 3 times that amount (up to $1600.00) for one repair, you do indeed have money to burn.

If on the other hand, your saying you have to have it repaired 3 or 4 times at $400.00 per repair, then I understand your figures. Otherwise my logistics class failed me.

Excellent points! As much as I enjoy this current Ford truck, it was not nessesarily "brand loyality" that made me buy it. I've owned Ford, Chevy, GMC, and Dodge trucks, and all served me well. Knocking on my head (wood), I've never experienced severe troubles, or "repeat" failures on any of them. Perhaps I've been lucky and are overdue.
Buying my current 2005 STX happened because I needed a vehicle. It happened to be at the first dealership I went to. It was on their used car section (a Ford dealership), and it struck my eye because of it's curb appeal. It then passed the second test, being it did not have a fancy package. I have a different approach when it comes to trucks; like them for their ability to work. I'm not into the power accesories (I.E. power windows, power door locks, carpeting, woodgrain, center consoles, etc.). I'm not against all that stuff, as others like those creature comforts, and that's why manufacturers offer all the different models and trim packages.

I would agree though that these upgrade features/packages should offer reasonable trouble free operation, and would also agree that a manufacturer should realize a faulty part when it appears to be common, and fix it, recall it, or at the very least, come out with an improved replacement part so it does not become a repeat repair offender.

I cannot slam Ford however, as I have not experienced these types of failures. I would support however those of you that have had repeat failures, or have had a feature fail prematurely.

In your defense, it will be an interesting study to see if the 09 and newer models continue to have these failures, or if they go away. If the latter happens, then it would seem obvious that Ford and/or the supplier of the regulators realized they had a problem, then fixed it.

My $1,200 cost is based on 4 regulators breaking ,if you have a super cab as i have . If you read my first post all 4 probably will break . FYI i bought the new regulator for $151.00 at my Ford dealer , they wanted to charge 1.5 hours labor to RR it, i replaced it myself took less than and hour ,spent more time getting the panel off then replacing the reg, also the part is made in china ( who would have guessed) there was no grease anywhere , just a motor 4 plastic pulleys and a broken cable , that was the problem . I was trying to inform ford owners of this problem , not get into BS contest on here .

So could you pull the regulator from one of the rear doors/windows and swap them? I never use the rear windows anyway and keep them locked so the kids cant either.

If this would work it wouldn't cost anything but "time". Any one know for sure if its the same regulator?

O.K. Fine. I did not understand your math; now that you explained you own a four door, the price makes sense, but I'll question your "all 4 probably will break" reasoning. Seeing as how the drivers side window gets most of the UP/DOWN action, I see that going first. The rear windows would appear to see little use, and therefore last longer. My motto has always been that if it's not broke, I won't fix it.

No BS contest with me, just courious on how the money amount was calculated.

Call your local Ford dealership and ask for the parts department; they can look it up and tell you. It's a good idea if it works.
