Default need more sound from exhaust!

Hey guys,

New to this forum.

I have an 08 fx4 with a banks intake/exhaust. it sounds great around 2k rpm but once i really start driving it gets really quiet.

Im trying to make it louder. I was thinking high flow cats but im not sure it will give me what im looking for.

Any suggestions?

Go with headers and high flow cats. Shorties won't provide much more power, but will sound nice, but full lengths will provide both power and sound gains. High flow cats will all free up your exhaust and go well with your intake

i thought for this truck you dont need to upgrade the headers? thought they were pretty modern.

Any particular make i should go with that might better compliment the banks system?

Your truck still has a manifold system. No headers to speak of stock. Look into aftermarket cats first and go from there. Magnaflow 94106 is a popular and inexpensive model to look for those.

Sell the exhaust you have on now and have a muffler shop install a 2.5 pipe (no muffler) to wherever you want it to exit and take the money you wasted on that banks exhaust and what you would have spent on high flow cats or headers and do some other mods! You'll love the sound of a straight piped cat back. Just my .02 cents!

that sounds pretty good!

When i bought the truck it had the banks system on it.

is it legal to have a straight pipe catback? or am i going to have to worry when i have to get an inspection?

The straight pipe sounds pretty awesome! how much would something like that run? few hundred?

I've had mine on for a while now and have gone through emmisions no problem. I only cut my stock muffler out and replaced it with a straight piece of pipe...cost like $40 at a muffler shop.

Do a youtube search on F150 with straight pipe...my truck should be on there.

Depends on your local laws whether a muffler is required or not. Straights aren't my cup of tea sound wise but if you do just chop the Banks muffler and go that way. BTW I hope you're tuned for that intake.

it probably isnt tuned. this just sounds like its turning into a project now haha

is the intake decent? should i be looking into a different one?

i just watched a video on youtube. i think its yours. same color truck and it sounds amazing i love it.

can i literally just take a pipe straight out of the cats and thats it? i still would need some sort of muffler right?

not mine but sounds good! Looks like he split it and did duals dumping behind the rear wheels. Mine is literally just a piece of straight pipe welded in place of the stock muffler.
