I need more information to help you out. How many miles on it, do you drive it hard, have you had any other problems, how long does it normally take for it to stop surging?

Some possibilities are a transmission slippage. The truck just doesn't fully get into Park. An easier issue could be a loose belt. As it catches on each pulley it gets an extra pull that it misses else where due to the slack in it.

I'm not a mechanic but those are some problems I've had in the past.

I have 70,000 miles on the truck. I would say I drive it normal. I had a hub actuator replaced recently but thats about it. I got the truck used last year. The only time it surges is when its first started after sitting for a few hours. It goes away after driving it probally no more than mile.

Well I did a little bit more research since I didn't feel 100% about my original answers. Here is a posting about Ford 5.0L engine that could closely apply:

But be happy if this is the worst of your trouble. I threw a piston rod through the top and bottom of my block with only 57k miles on it, just 3 months after I bought my truck. It took the dealer over a month to get it fixed right and cost around $11,000 between parts and labor. Thank God I bought an extended service contract.

Could be the throttle body going bad. The drive by wire system eliminates the IAC valve.

Thanks for all the help guys. Good call getting the extended warrenty. I had thought about cleaning the throttle body to see if that would help. However today was pretty nice outside 50% and my truck was fine so it must be something temp related.
