I think im getting better gas mileage...
I think im getting better gas mileage in 4hi than in 2hi. I dont think im just being paranoid, but I decided to observe the info center with the instant mpg display in both 2 and 4hi from mild take off's from traffic lights. i noticed my mileage is slightly better by 3-5 mpgs until 50 mph.
am i just going nuts?

Quite possibly due to the fact that the static inertia is more distributed over the entire driveline rather than just the two rear wheels under acceleration.

Though about mentioning that, but I thought between the owners manual and warning stickers, it was common knowledge. Nice.

im aware of this, and that's why i tested it for a minimal distance for a few minutes. i am just concerned that my gas mileage is being robbed further than necessary for having a full size truck...

What year/make/model do you own?
Personally, my old '02 F150 & current '06 F150 both got worse mpgs in 4WD than 2WD, So did my '85 & '99 Rangers.
Wouldn't trust your info center too much. I'd assume on initial take off you may experience a slightly better mpg rating, but once going you'd see that increase dwindle quickly.

I played with this idea for awhile. On a long flat road at a steady state on cruise and no wind at about 45 mph my info center is reading out 27.1 mpg - over a distance after reset of about 2 miles. I switch into 4H and a short while later the reading is stabilized at 26.8 mpg.
Absolute numbers aside - running in 4WD brings the mileage down - as one would expect...
