Default I Need Some Feedback!!

2007 KR Screw 5.4L 4x4
I just got this truck a few weeks ago and I have been reading alot on the forums about MPG. I really don't want to beat a dead horse but just need to put my mind at ease. Everything is stock except for 2.5"leveling kit and 275(34") Nitto Terra Grapplers. I imagine these tires are the culprit but I can't seem to break 13mpg!!! I have been driving about 80% in stop and go traffic but my mpg meter fluctuates between around 12.2(towing 5,000lb trailer) and 12.7 with a light foot and no trailer. I just need some people to tell me that everything is working ok. If anyone has any suggestions on cheap mods to improve it then I am all ears. The funny thing is that I can baby it(never getting over 2k rpm) or dog it and the mpg meter doesn't move much either way.

sounds normal to me. i have an EDGE unit with 6" lift and 35's, and i get about 13 also. when i had my 33's with leveling kit, i got about 14. im no fuel expert, but i have read that winter blends at the gas station are always a little worse on economy. these are pretty heavy trucks, and i dont recall reading anyone getting over maybe 17 completely stock, for your type of driving.

Sounds about normal. You could spend thousands trying to get just 1mpg improvement out of these trucks. Just a big heavy truck with a gasoline engine.
My buddy with a '98 f250 diesel wont stop laughing at me when i whine about my fuel economy. He gets around 20-22 mpg with a 10,000lb. trailer in city driving.
Maybe when they make a prius that can tow a trailer I'll think about giving up my f150...nah.

Well, 275 isn't 34" tire. But a bigger tire can hurt your gas mileage. But stock is 265, and 275 isn't going to hurt it much at all.

From what I'm reading, your getting 13mpg and your driving 80% stop and go traffic. Of course you will get bad gas mileage because your going from stop, on the gas, to stop and back on the gas hurting your fuel economy.

12.2mpg towing 5,000lbs seems normal. It's alot of weight.

Drive on the freeway doing 55+ for a while and I'm sure it will jump up to around 15-16mpg. But I wouldn't expect more than 13mpg in stop and go driving in the city.

A cold air intake (CAI) can improve performance and a possible 1mpg increase. Exhaust can give a little bit of performance and possible gas mileage increase. And a tuner can help also. The big 3 will help in performance and gas mileage.

Gryphon (Powerhungryperformance) would be a nice choice, shows gauges which would be nice when your towing a trailor to watch different parameters. Make sure your not running hot ect ect.

CAI, there's alot of brands. Airaid, K&N, AFE, Banks.. ect ect.

Exhaust, Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Borla.. ect ect.

Hope this helps some.

Hi,

My 06 4x4 w/5.4 ( all stock) gets about 14mpg driving a 50/50 mix of town and highway. About 15.5 with an average speed of 75mph on the highway. From what I've read, this is about average.

Ruprect is right, it's a heavy truck - about 6000lbs empty.

has your speedo been re-calibrated to compensate for the larger tires?

My 06 Supercrew is 100% stock and about the best I can do in town is 14mpg, I really haven't had it out on the highway but a combination of higway and city will get me 16.5 mpg.

Thanks for all of the feedback!! This makes me feel a little better about my mileage. At least I'm not completely out of the ball park with it.
