anyways back to the post. Edge makes a good product and can get it custom tuned. not sure of the performance gains and it comes in a pod that mounts on the left side of your dash about the air vent. SCT is another good brand and but i havent had that much experience on it at all.

have you ever seen the number of "i need a programmer" posts made? I counted 6 within 48 hours just in one given week. I even started a post asking that they be cleaned up and merged, but that ever happened. Yet, there is a dedicated sticky post on the matter and a quick search would have yielded many answers....But, instead of deciding that our members would be smart enough to do their own research, we have relegated ourselves to the lowest common demoninator with just "help me".

Dont worry about him man, he is always like that.
Anyway, I think sincity has the SCT that mounts on the dash...(could be wrong)I think it is a little more than 400... but worth it in the end seeing how you would be getting custom tunes for your truck that would give you MPG or HP depending on what you wanted.
The edge supposedly never truly returns your truck to stock and the dealer will give major hassle about warranty if you ever needed to take your truck in...Of course, if you are out of warranty already, than yeah, edge would be the cheapest way to go and you could get it sent out for custom tunes as well.

Sorry..don't know how I missed this thread going on.
SCT is the preferred tuner for myself and obviously some of my peers here on the site and elsewhere...
As for a device that is mountable I do have the Livewire which is able to be mounted on the windshield or wherever your creative heart desires.
I also now own a Gryphon...it is a custom programmed version of the Edge done by Bill from PHP who is one of the original programmers for Edge and is still a consultant (from what I gather) for the company.....
Custom tuning is the only way to go and I mean true custom tuning not those out there that say custom when all they do is alter shift point/pressure, rev limiters, etc. There are hundreds of parameters that are dealt with in a custom tune. The Edge itself comes no where near to the custom and performance you get from SCT devices as it's canned tunes are just as generic as the OEM tune on your current ECU. True, they are more agressive, but aggression without fine tuning leads to less results at the very least.
I have not yet received my custom tunes from Bill yet, but when I do I have promised to post up a side by side Dyno sheet for PHP, Troyer, and VMP.
Any more questions feel free to ask.

thanks sin, that helps alot. I am very uneducated about tuners and everything they do. I think I will go with the SCT device when I get my tax return check Where or how is the best way/place to purchase from?

Well.....VMP and Troyer are the top of the line with tuning these trucks with Troyer being on top. (By reputation as I have not received his yet). I do have VMP tunes and love them...the truck is a damn beast now. Troyer ad PHP tunes are on the way.
www.vmptuning.com (wait time is 1-4 weeks) SCT
www.troyerperformance.com (wait times is 1-4 months) SCT
www.powerhungryperformance.com (wait time is 1-3 months) Gryphon soon to be SCT also.
Wait times are subjective to workload of the tuner, mods to your truck, and what you ask for.
The livewire I have has only been mounted on my windshield a few times as it is quite large and bulky (my only complaint), but it is not needed to be plugged in all the time as you only need it plugged in when flashing the tunes to the ECU, flashing back to stock, or datalogging. An alternative to the live wire is the XcalIII and it will save you some $$. Not dash mountable but accomplishes most of the same tasks. This is what the majority of people running SCT have, wel,l or the XcallII.
