Default I got 2 problems... plz help

I drive a 2004 F-150 Fx4 with 5.4 and my first and most important problem is it has trouble idleing... it drives fine with no acceleration problems and no shifting problems of any sort but if i stop and let the truck idle the motor shakes and dies within a min or two... this has been going on for a little bit but i havent had the money to fix it and sense the truck drives fine i havent worried about it... My second problem occured last night leaving a party truck drove fine but power steering is not working well. when i turn the wheel about 1/4 of a turn it acts like the power steering is out and goes in and out of power steering and no power steering. and sense i pull trailers fairly often this is a sort of major problem... all fluids in truck are at normal levels and have no metal shavings in any... local mechanic pluged it to diagnostics machine today and no error poped up but check engine light is on... anyone got any ideas...

Sounds like you have an issue with your power steering and you should have the engine light attended to!

I'd think that if the check engine light (cel) is on, the truck has to be reporting a trouble code. maybe let someone else try reading the codes??

about the power steering, is the belt slipping?

is it the same "local mechanic" that tried to read the codes before?

No slight to your mechanic, but maybe his code reader device is a little flakey...........
