I could really use some help please--
2 issues here ...
1.
so about 2 weeks ago my automatic headlights stopped working. The headlights still work when used manually, but in automatic i only get the fogs and drls.
2. more importantly, today while driving home my truck beeped and displayed trans fault on the message display, the wrench lit up, and 10 seconds later my truck killed. It had done nothing leading up to this in my opinion that would have caused this, ran fine and everything. I used my gryfon to clear the code to get the truck to start, and noticed the idle point would jump around 200rpms up and down. the pedal position display on my grryfon showed 0% the whole time. But after clearing the code i made it the rest of the way home without any issues. I forgot in my panic attack to take a picutre of the code, but on the gryfon it said something about throttle pisition sensor or throttle body sensor fault. I am not sure if these are linked to each other or not, but I will say that today while trying to chase the first problem, I pulled every fuse on the passeger side kick panel to check them, and stupidly while doing so had the truck in the accessory position listning to music, could that have somehow affected this? The thing is, I started and stopped the truck about 4 times in between the fuse pulls and the problem occurence. Any help would be appreciated.

Start simple. Check and clean the throttle body. Check all electrical connections especially battery connections and chassis grounds. Also check for vacuum leaks or cracked vac hoses. As for the automatic headlights check the light sensor on the dash see if it is lit up with the key on.

I will check connections, double check where i was pulling fuses yesterday to see if something in there happened. The throttle body was cleaned this winter, so i'm thinking that should be fine, but I suppose everythings worth double checking at this point
bad relay, or are you talking about a bad connections in on of the pins i keep reading about on the BSM?

perhaps more than one issue. If your computer can't tell your gas pedal position you may have a problem with the gas pedal, throttle position sensor, and/or throttle body failure. One of these may be giving you the tranny fault because the ECM might be thinking the engine or tranny is spinning too fast or not fast enough relative to throttle and pedal position. I would have the throttle position sensor and throttle body checked first. If you transmission wasn't slipping or hard shifting before the codes it's unlikely the problem. As far as your lights go, it may be a bad Body Control Module. If you buy a Haynes manual the schematic will be in the back and that will be the best way to troubleshoot the BCM.

well i've read about there being one wires that has too much heat running through it and is usually the culprit with problems similar to mine, is that what your referring to by relay? and if not, where is what your talking about located, i know the BSM is located on the back wall, but if your talking about something different i don't have to pull the seat for, that would be good news haha

thank you for the info

Even if the issue with the autolamps is caused by an over heated wire harness you are still going to have to get at the BSM so you might as well get it over with. The upside is you can actually listen to the BSM and see if you can hear the relay activating with the autolamps which should help pinpoint the problem.

Unfortunately the relay I'm talking about is inside the BSM on the back of the cab. To replace it you would need to pull the BSM out and open it up, which I'm not even sure if its possible. I can check when I get home though if you want to know in case that is the issue.
