Default Hum/Vibration on Highway 50+

Hey guys

Long time, no see. But I'm back with a question. I've got a hum when driving on the highway. It come and goes with acceleration. If I accelerate from 50+ without it downshifting, my truck hums real loud. It sounds like its coming from up front, and i can feel it in the gas pedal. It also with do it on a roughly pave or dirt road at low RPMs with throttle. If the truck downshifts and hits high RPMs it goes away and runs totally normal. I've had alignments as well as wheel bearings, and shocks and struts replaced with no help.

Its an 04 5.4. I bought it in texas and the previous owner eluded reporting frame damage to the front drivers side of the vehicle made apparent by non-factory welds. I wish I knew that at the time. But I've put 40k on the truck and its only done it the past 20k or so but has gotten worse. also got a new tranny about 6-7k ago.

Help me I'm stuck on this one!

Are you running a CAI? Or normal airbox?

Alastropine, not to be rude, but it clearly says in his sig what he is running.

As for your issue Atnolan, it doesn't sound engine related. If it was happening at certain RPMs, it would be more likely. But the fact that it only happens during certain conditions makes me feel that it is something off balance or something could be loose and vibrating. Though I have never heard of a CAI causing anything like this...

Thanks for the reply! It happens at low RPMs, but it definitely does have specific conditions for it to happen as you've seen. I'm scratching my head

You said at low rpms at high speeds? Does it happen at low rpms at low speed?

Yes, but typically over rougher roads (which i take one 3x daily leaving my house), which makes me think that something is off balance.

Does it happen in a certain RPM range? or just generally low RPMs?

It'll happen usually from cruising at 2k on the highway and slowly ramp it up.It'll hum and vibrate til I press on it hard and my truck downshifts.

Honestly it could be many things. Ill address them individually.

1.) Something could be loose and vibrating. A heat shield possibly? Thats the first thing id try to find.

2.) Could be part of your timing system. When was the last time you had your timing belt done?

3.) Actual engine damage. I doubt it is this, because the sound would be more persistent and more noticeable.

In my honest opinion I think it is something loose and vibrating.
