How to replace interlock shifter solenoid?
#21
I have a center console shifter, 2007 F150. I took it to the dealership and they said that the solenoide was bad and would be $400 for part and labor. That is why I was hoping to see if I could replace it myself

This is why these forums are invaluable. Below is the phone number for TascaFordParts.com. I don't recall the correct part number and I can't seem to find it on here, except for the one I ordered by accident, which was for the steering column shifter. Just make sure you tell them you have the flow through console.

Ask for Domenic.
The part should run you about $75 at most.
You're going to need to dismantle the console housing. This is very easy (and I'm a moron). You just need to find the screws holding the side panels on, after you've removed the snap-in top panel (surrounding the shifter). Be careful to note which parts are attached to which. I believe part of the housing body runs under the console compartment lid, so there may be some semi-hidden screws to take out.
The part itself attaches to the driver-side of the shifter and has a white plastic tab coming out of it. You'll need to remove 3 or 4 screws and unplug it. You should not need to unscrew the shifter yourself, if I remember correctly.
Thanks,
Anthony

With all this being said, is it possible to change the solenoid on a column shifter? If so how do you go about it without removing a steering wheel or messing with air bags?

I was stuck in park on 04 Screw with no cruise control. After reviewing many threads on this topic, I concluded it was not brake switch because brake lights all worked fine. Followed AAK625's instructions above to remove solenoid. I noticed that the top transistor was slightly burned. Took solenoid to an electrical engineer at work and he actually soldered in a new one. Reinstalled and works perfect.
