Default Broken Spark plugs.

Just wondering about the spark plugs for the 5.4 Triton. I had 4 break in my truck and was wondering, has anyone ever made something to extract the shell without an extractor handy? I don't have the funds to get myself an extractor right now and was wondering has anyone had success with an E-Z out? The spark plugs that were in my truck were the two piece design.

Mine is like this. Electrode still in the shell of it.

I've never heard of anyone doing a homemade version. If it doesn't work, you're in a huge mess that will cost you 10 times what the tool costs. Have you tried any auto parts places to see if they rent one? I know there was one by my old house in Charlotte that had one.

Let me guess, you attempted to remove these plugs on a cold engine? Also, on your signature is always a good idea to put information where are you from, maybe one of us live just close to you and have the tool.

Nope, engine was warmed when i attempted to change my plugs. They did one full turn and after that they got extremely easy to move. That's when i figured they broke, pulled my socket out of the cylinder and the top of the plug came out. I have one more I still need to take off but im going to leave that until I can get the other three broken plugs out first. Don't want to break that one because its the #8 cylinder. This is new to me , this forum site. Would I add my location in the original post?

The lisle spark plug extractor is about the only way your going to get it out. You can rent them from part stores like napa or o'Reilly

Unfortunately, trying to properly maintain these trucks on a limited budget is a losing proposition. Saving money by deferring maintenance leads to much more expensive issues down the road. Decent parts are crazy expensive too compared to other brands, and many parts on these trucks require OEM parts.

Welcome to the site; there is a wealth of information and tips/tricks here. Keeping these trucks going properly is not for the faint of heart. Amazon has plug extractors for under $20. As good as the Lisle? No idea but worth a shot, and return if needed. As mentioned, the local parts store will have free rentals.
